Composing for Percussion — Workshop & Concert for Composition Students — CSMIB

Composing for Percussion is a year-long programme/project I am developing with the composition students of the Conservatori Superior de Música de les Illes Balears (CSMIB) and their teachers, following the first edition of the project, which I did at the CSMIB during the 2022–23 academic year.

The programme begins with a two-day workshop on 18–19 December 2026, where I will introduce different percussion instruments, extended techniques, approaches to notation and ways of thinking about sound, while working individually with the students on their ideas and compositions.

The process will continue throughout the academic year, culminating on 7–8 May 2027 with rehearsals and a final concert, where the students’ new pieces will be premiered.

My main aim is to make this first experience of composing for percussion a positive and enriching one, while accompanying the students through the complete creative process, from experimentation phase, through composition and individual work, to rehearsal and live performance.
