DESCRIPTION:20.05.2024\, 18:30 AULA\nBrandhofgasse 21\, Erdgeschoss\, 8010 Graz \n„Der Sonne und dem Tod kann man nicht ins Gesicht blicken.“ /Francois de la Rochefoucauld/ \nParhelia – aus dem Griechischen die Nebensonnen: Eine Sonne der zwei ist die reale\, die andere – eine Holoerscheinung\, eine Illusion. Doch welche ist welche? In diesem Programm verschmelzen die Grenzen zwischen einer modernen zeitgenössischen Gegenwart und einer in den altgriechischen Sagen umsungenen in allen Zeiten Aktualität findenden Welt der Illusionen. Wo endet die musiktheatralische Konzertsituation und wo beginnt schon das konzertante Musiktheater? Welches Stück trägt eine ernsthaftere Gesellschaftskritik? Eines das Schmerzhaftes direkt anspricht oder jenes das als Parodie oder musikalische Karikatur gedacht ist? Die Grenzen zwischen diesen zwei Welten verlaufen fließend und die traditionellen Rollen ändern sich ständig. Manches Mal wird die Person hinter dem traditionell auf der Bühne schweigenden Perkussionisten Manuel Alcaraz Clemente durch die „Situations“ von Francois Sarhan sichtbar und äußert sich nicht nur instrumental\, sondern überraschenderweise auch verbal und schauspielerisch. Ein ander Mal greift die Sängerin Helena Sorokina zu einem Schlaginstrument wie in der Rolle der Böses prophezeienden Kassandra in Samir Odeh-Tamimi’s „MERÉCH“. \nJegliche Performancesituation im Rampenlicht ist ein künstliches Konstrukt\, in dem keinerlei Platz für die alltäglichen Gewohnheiten oder Zeit für die natürlich ausbrechenden Emotionen und Gedanken der Aufführenden vorgesehen ist. Das Publikum erwartet die Perfektion und das fast schon maschinelle „Funktionieren“ der Künstler*innen\, sobald diese auf die Bühne kommen. Die „Situations“ von François Sarhan sind miniature Musiktheaterszenen\, in denen sowohl die Sprache als auch die Körperbewegungen auf amüsante Art voll Leichtigkeit gesellschaftskritische Musiker*innen Alltagsgeschichten virtuos instrumentalisiert und rhythmisiert werden. Jegliche Aufführung hat einen Ritus in sich. Daher werden in diesem Programm scheinbar traditionell konzertante Werke\, die aber allesamt ein Gefühl des Rituals\, der Zauberei oder gewissermaßen einer schamanistischen Beschwörung vermitteln\, in die Arkade der gegenwärtigen Situationen als Kontrast zu diesen eingewoben. Besonders verdeutlicht wird dies in „Rebonds B“ des griechischen Komponisten Iannis Xenakis\, in Pia Palme’s 2023 explizit für dieses Duo komponierten Werk „Or is it microbiology?“\, in dem die altgriechische Ariadne heutzutage wieder ihren Tod sucht\, im Werk für Solostimme der philippinischen Komponistin Feliz Macahis\, das an der Schwelle zwischen dem Licht und der Dunkelheit stattfindet\, sowie in der Neukomposition von der in Griechenland lebenden Lettin Gundega Šmite. \nProgramm \nFrancois Sarhan (*1972\, Frankreich/Deutschland) – aus den Situations (2008-2015):\nOnly für zwei Performer*innen \nImagination für zwei Performer*innen \nIncognito für zwei Performer*innen \nHope für zwei Performer*innen \nThe Worker für eine*n Performer*in \nEnough! Die enge und systematische Arbeit mit einzelnen Musiker:innen ist der Kern der Methodik\, die darauf abzielt\, die Mechanik eines Instruments und etablierten Techniken zu verstehen und zu reflektieren\, aber auch das bereits verkörperte Wissen durch die Erkundung anderer konzeptioneller Möglichkeiten\, Grenzen und Beschränkungen zu erweitern. Da das traditionelle westliche Notationssystem auf die Beschreibung von Klängen abzielt\, stellt das Komponieren aus der Körper der Interpret:innen wichtige Fragen im Hinblick auf die Notation und die Rolle der Partitur\, sowohl bei der Probenarbeit als auch bei der Aufführung. Das Projekt untersucht auch das Ritual des Musizierens\, das sich scheinbar in den Raum und die Zeit der Probe hinein erstreckt und die Notwendigkeit erzeugt\, die Rolle nicht nur des Interpreten\, sondern auch des Komponisten zu beobachten. \n„Artefact 2“ und „Fact 4“ fokussieren sich auf die Körper der Interpret:innen (des Schlagzeugers und der Sängerin)\, insbesondere auf die körperlichen Aspekte der Klangerzeugung und des Musizierens. Der Einsatz der Muskeln\, die Beobachtung von Atemmustern und die bewusste Bewegung sind einige der Elemente\, die erforscht werden\, mit denen der Performer auch experimentieren und seine körperlichen Grenzen erforschen kann. Das Ziel der Herangehensweise an das Musizieren durch den Resonanzkörper des Interpreten besteht darin\, die Aufmerksamkeit auf die Qualität der Handlung und damit auch auf die Wirkung der Qualität des Klangs zu lenken. Intention\, unterschiedliche mentale Schwerpunkte und Aktion/Interaktion mit seinem Körper und Instrument schaffen eine Musik\, in der der Musiker die Grenze zwischen kontrollierter\, vorherbestimmter Aktion und trainierter\, spontaner Reaktion auf körperliche Manifestationen als Impulse balancieren muss. Im Mittelpunkt dieser Praxis steht immer der individuelle und einzigartige Körper jedes Performers in all seinen Facetten. \n“Bodies in resonating action” is a project that examines practices of initiating a composition through the observation of the performer’s body. Close and systematic work with individual musicians is the core of the methodology\, which aims to understand and discuss the mechanics of an instrument and established techniques\, but also to expand the already embodied knowledge by exploring other conceptual possibilities\, boundaries and limitations. Because the traditional Western notation system aims at describing sounds\, composing from the performer’s body raises important questions regarding notation and the role of the score in rehearsal and performance. The project also examines the ritual of music-making\, which seems to be extending into the space and time of rehearsal and creates the need to observe the role of not only the performer but also the composer. \n“Artefact 2” and “Fact 4” focus on the body of the performer (the percussionist and the singer)\, particularly the physical aspects of sound production and music-making. The use of muscles\, observation of breathing patterns and conscious movement are some of the elements explored\, with which the performer can also experiment and explore their physical limits. The aim of approaching music-making through the performer’s resonating body is to draw attention to the quality of the action and therefore the effect this has on the quality of the sound. Intention\, different mental focuses and action/interaction with their body and instrument create a music in which the musician must balance the boundary between controlled\, predetermined action and trained\, spontaneous reaction to physical manifestations as impulses. DESCRIPTION:The Graz-based Schallfeld Ensemble misses the acoustic connections to the physical world. Carlo Elia Praderio calls his new work Dune. For him\, the gradual transitions from solo instrument to ensemble in this acoustic “dune” are metaphors for environmental change: small changes with big effects. \nKatharina Klement also relates individuals and space: in Monde II\, she uses the sounds of concrete mixers filled with different materials such as sand or wood. She transfers the resulting loops into a circular spatial concept\, analogous to the model of several moons that individually circle to form an open whole\, thus creating a coherent monde (world). \nBeat Furrer’s Intorno al bianco for clarinet and string quartet is also about communication between the ensemble and the individual. Sehyung Kim sets nine instruments in relation to live electronics and the theme of plastic.
