Little did Mozart know when, in the summer of 1788, he composed his Symphony No.40 in the idyllic surroundings of Alsersgrund that its theme would one day be a hit all over the world. Tempestuous G minor was his choice of key. Gerd Kühr finds this agitated Mozart again in one of the early Salzburg symphonies, before turning to that magician among composers, György Ligeti. The great Hungarian’s Violin Concerto, a blend of Balkan and modernism, took years to come to fruition. Spirited Patricia Kopatchinskaja gives it her all for this crazy brilliant concert.
