Nemeton — The Focus on the Sound and the Emotion of the Ritual

The title of Matthias Pintscher’s piece “Nemeton” evokes a sacred space of the ancient Celtic religion in which the Celtics used to perform ceremonies under the direction of their druids.

The ritualistic aspect of the percussion instrument and the sophisticated focus on its sound are two concepts that coexist in this composition for contemporary percussion.

Percussionist Manuel Alcaraz Clemente brings together these two ideas through a program by presenting a special focus on the sound, exploiting the acoustic properties of a marimba, and inviting the audience into the acoustical, resonant space inside a drum – all the while without forgetting the emotional aspect and power of the drums.
